Samsung 2342BWX the worlds first QWXGA LCD

Samsung has released a new widescreen monitor which is probably the world's first supporting a QWXGA resolution of 2048 x 1152 pixels. That is a whole lot of pixels and looking at the pics the 23 inch LCD can easily display two A4 pages side by side along with Vista's crappy sidebar. Valuable for graphic artists and stock brokers who can loose the extra monitor and save on precious desk space. The Samsung 2342BWX will be available in Korea for $ 300.

Tracked Hummer can take on the M1 Abrams

The Hummer brand might be up for sale in lieu of astronomical gas prices and the dwindling economy but this did not deter a group of engineers to replace the pneumatic tires with tracked belts. Surely there is no change in the speed of the vehicle but there would be a phenomenal increase in the heads it turns.

Mickey Mouse digital photo frame

Wouldn't your kid be delighted to see his Disneyland Trip pics on a Mickey Mouse photo frame? Well I would to, though I have outgrown to buy Disney memorabilia I still own Disney stock just for the sentimental factor. Shaped as the iconic Mouse's head the frame has a 1.5 inch LCD which sucks, as it will be more painful to find your little one than finding Waldo. The frame holds a measly 49 pictures, connects via USB, supports slide show and has a clock function. It is powered by 2 x AAA batteries and is available in Japan in four colors - blue, pink, white and black for 4935 Yen ($ 45).

XCM Hyper Gear case for the DS Lite

The unique thing about the newXCM Hyper Gear case for the DS Lite is that it turbocharges your games besides giving the console a sleek look. Flipping the switch on the side that says "N", "1.4X" and "1.7X" (in the bottom right corner), will make the DS Lite run at 140% or 170% of its normal speed. However this may cause you to recharge the console frequently because of the load on the battery. Overclocking a handheld like the DS Lite actually speeds up your games, graphics and audio.
This video will give a cleared picture:

XCM will release the Hyper Gear pretty soon and you may be able to pick it up from online modding retailers like Extreme Mods and Total Console.

Darth Vader toasts your bread

Even the Force won't be with you, if you don't kick-start your morning with a healthy meal. The best is toasting your two pieces of bread in this Star Wars Darth Vader avatar. It's a week since mobile network 3 slapped a teaser site up on the web bragging about a new gadget that, "will change the way you use Facebook on your phone." Well, that very Facebook phone has managed to leak out properly and we have to say it sounds the business.

Thin yet large epaper could be the future of the brochure

Thin yet large epaper could be the future of the brochure Looks like the future of epaper is going to end up being just another recycling nightmare, judging by a recent appearance of a large yet thin wall e-paper. The FDPI conference in Yokohama, by the Soken Chemical & Engineering Co. showed a wall of 30 x 30 cm e-ink paper displays. The sheet appears like cheap paper even though it’s made out of acrylic resin and is just 0.1mm thin. The company is currently trying to incorporate more than two colors in a display at a time.

Windows 7 preview boots as fast as XP & Vista

It seems like we are never going to see the day when a PC boots as fast a calculator, but at least we can now rest knowing that the newest version of Windows is gonna boot faster than any of the Vista boot ups. An Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 3.16GHz with 4GB of RAM, was used to measure the boot up times of all three OS's. This test revealed that windows 7 and XP had the same boot up time of 27 seconds versus the Vista Ultimate, which takes around 34 seconds to do the same. It seems the engineers at Microsoft have gone on an overdrive to achieve the target of less than 15 seconds of boot up time.

Touching Windows 7

In addition to getting to spend a few minutes playing around with Windows 7's new desktop, I had a chance to play around with its multitouch gestures.
The brief look came on a machine running a later build than the one Microsoft handed out to developers last week. More similar to the version that was shown onstage Tuesday, the machine I used had the new desktop featuring the Aero Peek and other features.

Along with the gestures themselves, Microsoft has tweaked the desktop to support touch, doing things like spreading out menu lists to make the operating system easier to navigate with just a finger.

The key question is going to be how much software developers take advantage of touch and how many computer makers include the necessary hardware in their laptops and displays

Many programs will have support for basic gestures, such as scrolling, but what will also be interesting is seeing programs that truly take advantage of the technology.

Microsoft's approach with Windows 7 also highlights a key difference with Apple. The Mac maker has focused, at least thus far, on expanding the touch abilities of the laptop trackpad. Microsoft, meanwhile, seems aimed at touch on the screen itself--though trackpad makers such as Synaptics have added support for gestures that XP and even Vista laptops can take advantage of if their makers' wish.
