Sony reveals the IMX060PQ 12 MP camera for mobile phones

Designed to meet the increasing need for advanced image quality within mobile phone enabled cameras, Sony has announced it has developed a new CMOS image sensor for use in cameraphones that offers the industry's highest ever pixel count at 12.25 effective megapixels. The sensor measures just 7.5mm, so will not add bulk to cameraphones, which Sony says are getting smaller and slimmer due to customer demand. In addition, the company has announced an 8.11 and 5.15 megapixels sensors that will make up part of the Exmor range too as well as complimentary lens modules.
Currently there is an ongoing wave of 8-megapixel cameraphones that have hit the UK and US markets recently, including the Sony Ericsson C905.
